Found a Wasp Nest in Your Loft in Ashford? Here's What to Do
Cost is one of the first things people ask about a loft nest. Here is what the fixed price covers, how a second nest is charged and what is not included.
One price, stated plainly
When a wasp nest turns up in the loft, people often put off the call because they fear an open-ended bill. We try to remove that worry. Treating a wasp nest costs a fixed £120 per nest. The price is the same whether the nest is in a loft, a wall, a chimney or a shed. It is the same on a weekday, on a Sunday or in the evening.
The price graphic on our site says '1 visit guaranteed', and that is what it means: the cost is for the visit and the treatment of the nest, with no hidden fees and no added costs for location or time of day. You can ask for a quote and make a booking in one conversation.
A fair price is one you can understand before you ring. Ours is stated on our site, and is repeated whenever you speak to us. There is no sliding scale for larger nests, no premium for a Sunday visit and no charge to cover the technician's travel.
What is included
The £120 covers the essentials of the job. This is what you get:
- A visit from a technician who is fully insured and qualified.
- Treatment of the wasp nest, done safely and effectively.
- No call-out charge.
- Service seven days a week, including same-day service where available.
- Evening and weekend appointments.
- Domestic and commercial work at the same price.
- One visit guaranteed.
You can also ask at booking whether the empty nest can be taken down. We keep the offer simple, so you know where you stand.
The technician is also insured, which means you are protected if something goes wrong during the work. Domestic customers, landlords and businesses all receive the same service at the same price. If you have a specific question about what is included, ask when you phone.
A second nest on the same property
Sometimes more than one nest is found. A loft may hold two, or a garage or shed may have its own. An additional nest on the same property is £60 extra. That price is also fixed. The technician will tell you if a second nest is found, and you will know the cost before it is dealt with.
If the second nest is at another address, such as a neighbour's property, it is a separate booking. Each property is charged on its own.
Think about what else is on the property. Wasps sometimes nest in a garage, a shed, a porch roof or a hole in the ground, as well as in a loft. If you suspect more than one, tell us. It is much easier to plan a visit with two nests in mind than to find a second after the first is done.
What the price does not cover
A wasp treatment deals with wasps. It does not include building work, such as repairing a gap in the fascia, replacing damaged insulation, re-plastering a stained ceiling or boarding over a hole. These are jobs for a builder or other tradesperson. We also do not treat bees or other pests; for honeybees or bumblebees, contact a local beekeeper or the relevant bee organisation.
Clearing up afterwards is up to you, though the technician will explain how. Dead wasps can be swept up with a vacuum or a brush and pan.
If a repair or replacement is needed afterwards, get more than one quote from builders and keep the receipts with your records. We recommend that you wait until the technician has confirmed the nest is dealt with before work begins.
Some people ask whether the fixed price means a rushed job. It does not. The technician carries out the treatment as the situation requires, and the visit covers all that is needed to deal with the nest. If something unusual comes up, they explain it on the day.
It is also worth keeping any paperwork from the visit. A receipt shows the date and the work done, which is useful if a landlord, agent, buyer or insurer ever asks. Whether any of them contributes to the cost depends on the agreement or policy you have, so check it rather than assume.
For a business, the same price applies to an office, shop, workshop or any other commercial premises, and the same technician standards apply.
How to compare sensibly
If you are collecting quotes, ask each company the same questions. Is the price fixed? Is there a call-out charge? Does it change in the evening or at weekends? Is a second nest charged separately? Is the technician insured and qualified? We cannot comment on others, but those questions will show you what you are being offered.
It is wise to be cautious about any quote that rises on the day. With us, the price you are given is the price you pay. Contact us for a quote and booking by phone on 01622 410 019, or by the online form on the contact page. The online form also works for out-of-hours emergencies. We cover Ashford and nearby villages.
Ask us anything that is unclear before you book. We would rather answer a question twice than have a customer unsure about what they are paying for.
Budgeting for the whole job
Beyond the treatment, you may want to set aside a small amount for sundry items, such as a vacuum bag, gloves and bin bags. If you choose to repair the entry gap or replace insulation later, that cost sits with the builder. Insurance, tenancy and landlord arrangements vary, so check your own policy or agreement for any contribution.
Do not delay because of cost. A nest that is left grows, and it can keep sending wasps into the house for weeks. A fixed price visit is the simplest way to deal with the problem.
