Where Wasps Nest, and Why It Matters
Where a nest is decides how quickly it needs doing and how it is treated. It is the first thing we will ask you.
- Roof space and eaves — the commonest by a distance, and often not found until wasps start appearing inside the house
- Wall cavities and airbricks — the entry point is often a long way from the nest itself
- Sheds, garages and outbuildings
- Under roof tiles and behind fascia boards
- Bushes, hedges and trees — exposed grey paper nests, often only spotted once the leaves thin out
- Ground nests in banks, compost heaps and rockeries, which are very easy to disturb with a mower
Please do not try to treat a nest yourself
Disturbing a nest without the right equipment is the most common way people get stung repeatedly, and blocking the entrance usually makes wasps find another way out — often into the room below. It is a £90 job. It is not worth the risk.
