Why Are Wasps Flying Into Your Capel-le-Ferne Home? Common Causes and Solutions

For households with an allergy, speed and calm matter. This guide sets out what to do straight away, what to avoid and how to tell us so the visit can be prioritised.

When someone is allergic

Most people who are stung have a sore, swollen patch that settles in a day or two. A small number have a serious allergic reaction. If anyone in your home is known to be allergic, or you are unsure, wasps indoors are more than a nuisance.

This guide is general safety advice, not medical advice. In Capel-le-Ferne, as anywhere, it is wise to plan ahead and talk to your GP about what you should do in an emergency.

Allergies can change. Someone who has had mild reactions in the past may react more strongly another time, and someone who has never been stung may find that they react badly. It is a good reason to take any sting seriously, and to follow your doctor's guidance rather than guessing.

Households with an allergy sometimes feel they must live on edge in summer. A good plan helps. Decide in advance who will do what, where the person will go and how you will contact help. Write the plan down and put it somewhere everyone can see.

The first few minutes

If wasps are in the house and someone is allergic:

  1. Keep the person calm and away from the wasps, ideally in another room with the door closed.
  2. Put a towel at the foot of the door to stop wasps crawling underneath.
  3. Open a window in the wasp room, if safe, then leave it.
  4. Keep food and drink covered throughout the home.
  5. Do not swat or chase the wasps.

Try to avoid panic. A calm adult makes children and others feel safer.

If the person is a child, stay with them. Keep your voice quiet and your movements slow, and move them to a room away from the wasps. Distract them with a book or a film, and do not let them go and look. A child who is calm is easier to help if something does go wrong.

If a sting happens

Move away from the wasp. Rinse the area, remove the sting if you can see it and apply a cold pack. Watch the person closely. Call 999 straight away if there is swelling of the face, lips or throat, wheezing or difficulty breathing, dizziness or faintness, or a widespread rash. Do not wait to see if it gets worse.

If the person has been prescribed medicine for emergencies, they should follow the instructions they have been given by their doctor. We cannot give dosing or drug advice.

Know where your phone is, and make sure you can give your address clearly if you call 999. Tell someone else in the household what you are doing, so that two people are watching the allergic person. If you are alone, keep the phone with you.

Remember that a sting can happen outside as well. If the person is in the garden when a wasp lands, they should walk calmly indoors. Running, flailing and shouting tend to make a wasp more defensive. A calm, steady retreat is best.

Telling us when you book

When you contact Wasp Exterminator Kent, say clearly that someone in the household is allergic to wasp stings. The client's advice is that this lets the booking be prioritised. No promise is made about a particular response time, so keep the person safe in the meantime.

The online form can be used for emergency requests outside normal hours, and evening and weekend appointments are available.

It helps to mention how many wasps you have seen, where they seem to be coming from and whether anyone has been stung already. Short, clear information allows the booking to be handled quickly. Do not delay a call to find out more.

Reducing risk until the visit

While you wait:

A nest can hold from 2,000 to 10,000 or more wasps at its peak in August, and nests begin from late April, depending on the weather. Do not approach one.

If you can see wasps coming and going from a gap outside, keep the allergic person well away from that side of the house. Do not let them sit in the garden, go to the bins or use the nearest door until the nest has been dealt with.

Booking

Treatment is a fixed £120 per nest, with one visit guaranteed, and an additional nest on the same property is £60 each. Technicians are fully insured and qualified, and they work for domestic and commercial customers seven days a week. Same-day service is available.

To book, ring 01622 410 019 or send an enquiry through the contact page form. Ask the technician whether the empty nest can be taken down once it has been treated.

After the visit, keep an eye out for stray wasps for a day or two. Any that were away from the nest at the time of treatment may come back to find it gone. Tell us if wasps continue to appear and keep the allergic person away from them.

Mention the allergy in the same message as the address and the description of the wasps. Do not leave it until the end of a long explanation, as it may be missed. A clear first sentence, such as a family member is allergic to wasp stings, gets the point across.
