Same-Day Wasp Nest Treatment in Deal – What to Expect

The days after treatment are when many people feel unsure, so a short guide to what is normal, what is not and what to do about it helps.

The first day

The visit is over, the technician has gone, and you are left with a nest that looks much the same as it did before. It is natural to want reassurance. The first thing to know is that the nest will still be there, and that wasps will still be around it for a while.

During the first day, wasps returning from foraging find the nest changed, and they will hover and land around the old entrance. You may see a good number of them for some hours. This is normal, and it usually fades through the day.

Keep clear of the area, keep children and pets indoors and away from that corner, and keep windows on that side closed. Do not go to look at it. A nest can hold from 2,000 to 10,000 wasps or more at its peak, and the stragglers can still sting.

It also helps to know that some wasps remain on the nest or nearby for a time. They are not a sign that anything has gone wrong; they are simply the last of the colony settling down.

Day two and three

By the second day, the picture should have changed. There should be far fewer wasps near the old entrance, and the steady two-way traffic you saw before should be gone. A few wasps may still appear, often alone, wandering across a wall or window.

Check from a distance, in the same way as before, preferably at the time of day when the nest was busiest. You are looking for a change, not for perfection.

If you notice:

make a note of what you see and when. These are the things worth reporting.

Compare what you see with what you noted before the visit. If you wrote down the number of wasps passing in a minute, repeat the count and see how it has changed. A big drop is the sign you are looking for.

Use a simple list to keep track over the week after treatment.

  1. Day one: stay clear, windows shut, note the number of wasps near the old entrance.
  2. Day two: look again from a distance at the same time of day. Is it quieter?
  3. Day three: check for wasps indoors or in a new place.
  4. Day five: take a final look and decide whether the area is back to normal.
  5. Any time: if the steady flow returns, write down what you see and get in touch.

The list takes seconds to follow and gives you a clear answer in place of a vague worry.

Things to avoid

In the days after treatment, it is tempting to tidy up. Please hold off.

  1. Do not knock down, scrape away or poke the nest.
  2. Do not seal the entrance straight away.
  3. Do not hose or spray the area.
  4. Do not mow, strim or trim near it until the area is quiet.
  5. Do not let children examine the old nest.

If you would like the empty nest taken down, ask the technician. They can tell you what is possible, and when it is safe to deal with the entrance. You can ask at booking, at the visit or afterwards through the contact page.

When to get in touch

Most households find that things settle quickly. But if you are still seeing a steady stream of wasps after a day or two, or wasps are getting into the house in numbers, get in touch. Describe exactly what you have seen, where and when. If you have a photograph taken from a safe distance, mention it.

The visit is one visit guaranteed. We do not promise anything beyond that, but we do want to hear if something does not seem right.

If you have found a second nest on the property, it is a separate matter. An additional nest is £60 per nest, compared with £120 for the first, and the price is fixed with no call-out charge.

Staying safe if you are stung

Stings can still happen after the visit. Move away, remove a visible sting, wash the area and hold a cold pack on it. Call 999 if the face, lips or throat swell, if there is wheezing or trouble breathing, or if dizziness or a widespread rash develops. People with known allergies should speak to their GP.

Keep an eye on pets. If a dog or cat is stung and swells around the face or seems distressed, contact a vet.

Remember to keep sweet food and drinks covered. Wasps that have lost their nest may become more interested in anything easy to find.

Bear in mind that guests, family or colleagues may not know about the nest. Tell them that it has been treated but that it is best to keep clear of the old entrance for now.

Children who saw the technician may ask what happened. A simple explanation is usually enough: the wasp nest was dealt with, and we are keeping away from the spot for a little while to be safe.

Back to normal

After a few days, if things are quiet, you can resume normal use of the garden or building. Open windows, put the washing out and let the children play. Still, it is sensible to take an occasional look at the eaves, sheds and hedges, always from a distance, in case anything new appears.

For Deal, bookings can be made on 01622 410 019 or through the online form, and evening and weekend appointments are available.

Keep the booking details somewhere you can find them, since a prompt call is easier when you have the date of the visit to hand.

Frequently asked questions

How long should I wait before going near the old nest?
Stay clear for the rest of the day at least, and be cautious for longer if you still see wasps there. Ask the technician for advice.
Is it normal to see wasps indoors afterwards?
A few stragglers can drift in. Open a window on the far side and let them leave. If there are many, tell us.
Can I take the old nest down myself?
Please ask the technician first. Do not remove it while wasps are still about.
