Found a Wasp Nest in Your Loft in Cobham? Here's What to Do

Knowing what to expect from the visit takes much of the worry out of booking, so here is the sequence from the first phone call to the last dead wasp swept up.

Before anyone arrives

The visit begins with your call or form. We ask where you have seen or heard wasps, which rooms are affected and whether anyone in the household is allergic to stings. We also ask about the loft itself: where the hatch is, whether there is a ladder, and whether the floor is boarded. These details help the technician arrive prepared.

You will be given an appointment. We are open seven days a week and offer same-day service where we can, so for many people the visit takes place within hours. Evening and weekend slots are there for people who cannot be home during the working day.

There is no call-out charge, and the price you are quoted is the price you pay: £120 for a nest, with £60 for any additional nest on the same property.

It also helps to think about the timing of the day. If the household is out from morning until evening, say so, because a technician can sometimes visit while you are at work as long as access is arranged. Equally, if you work from home and the noise or wasps are making the day impossible, tell us, so the earliest slot can be offered.

What to do in the hour before

You do not need to do very much, and certainly not anything near the nest. A little tidying makes the visit smoother.

If the nest is in a commercial building, tell staff where not to go and, if possible, keep the area clear of customers.

Arrival and assessment

When the technician arrives, they will introduce themselves and ask you to show where wasps have been seen. They are fully insured and qualified, and they will explain what they plan to do in plain terms. They will check the outside of the building to see the flight line, then go to the hatch.

This stage is about confirming what you have told us. Sometimes the nest turns out to be in a different place from where the noise suggested, or there are two nests, one at either end. If a second nest is found on the same property, it is charged at £60 extra, and the technician will tell you before going further.

Commercial visits follow the same pattern. A nest above a shop, a surgery or a small workshop is checked, confirmed and treated in the same way, and the same fixed price applies. If the building is open to the public, the technician may ask to cordon off a small area while the work is carried out.

Treating the nest

The technician goes up into the roof space with the right equipment and deals with the nest. We do not go into how the nest is treated, and you do not need to know. What matters is that the work is done safely and effectively, by someone trained to do it, while you wait downstairs.

Please stay away from the landing and hatch while this takes place. Keep children and pets clear, and if you are anxious, go outdoors or into a room at the other end of the house. The technician will come down and speak to you when the job is done.

Our price carries one visit guaranteed, so you are not left wondering about a second charge.

Throughout, the technician is working in an enclosed, awkward space, so the visit is not rushed. You may hear movement overhead. That is normal. If you hear anything that worries you, call up to the technician rather than going to the hatch yourself.

What you will be told afterwards

Once the work is finished, the technician will explain what has been done and give you simple instructions. This usually covers when it is safe to use the loft again, what to do about any wasps still in the house and what to expect over the next few days. You can also ask whether the empty nest can be taken down.

Expect some stray wasps for a short time, and a few dead ones around the hatch or on the ceiling edge. Keep the room ventilated, and avoid pressing on any wasp you find, as a dead one can still sting.

A good technician also tells you what not to do next. That usually means leaving the hatch shut until told otherwise, not sealing gaps in a hurry and avoiding the area for the rest of the day. If anything is unclear, ask. It is far better to understand the advice than to guess later.

Booking and what to have ready

To arrange a visit in Cobham, phone 01622 410 019 or use the online form on the contact page. The form also works for emergency requests outside normal hours. Have your address, a brief description of what you have seen and a contact number ready.

We cover domestic and commercial properties and the technician works in Cobham and the surrounding villages. If someone in the home has a wasp sting allergy, say so when you book, so that the appointment can be prioritised.

It is worth knowing that you do not need to be present for the whole visit, provided access is arranged. Many people prefer to be elsewhere for the work itself and to return when it is finished.
