Same-Day Wasp Nest Treatment in Grays – What to Expect

Wasps have a way of showing up at night or at the weekend, and the online form lets you start the booking whenever you find them.

The nest you find at nine at night

Some wasp nests are found on a Friday evening, when the washing comes in and a line of wasps is going into a gap above the door. Others show up on a Sunday morning, when someone opens the shed for a mower. The phone lines may be quiet, and the temptation is to leave it until Monday.

There is a better way. The online booking form on the contact page can be used for emergency service outside normal office hours. You can describe what you have found, give your details and let the booking staff pick it up. Seven days a week the business is open.

A nest can hold from 2,000 to 10,000 wasps or more at its peak, and a night or a weekend of waiting is a night or a weekend of risk. Same-day service is offered, though it cannot be promised for every call, and the form is the quickest way to start.

If you are a business owner who finds a nest on a Saturday, the same applies. Describe it in the form, say whether the premises are open to the public and ask for the earliest sensible slot.

What to put in the form

Write as you would speak. Keep it clear and factual.

If you can, put the most important point first. If an allergy is involved, say so in the first line, as the client's advice is that it allows the booking to be prioritised.

You do not need to send a long message. A few clear lines are better than a long account that hides the important details.

Making the night safe

Once the form is sent, spend a few minutes making the home safer. It is easier in the evening when you are thinking about where to sit and how to shut the house up.

  1. Close windows and doors on the nest side and draw the curtains.
  2. Keep lights low in rooms facing the nest, since light attracts wasps at dusk.
  3. Bring in food, drinks, washing and toys from outside.
  4. Keep children and pets in rooms away from the nest.
  5. Put a towel at the foot of a door if wasps are coming under it.

Do not go outside to look. Wasps are less active in the dark, but a nest disturbed at night can still empty. Do not spray, block or knock the nest.

If you cannot sleep for worry, remember that the nest is outside, the house is shut and the booking is made. That is the right position to be in.

If wasps are already in the house

Stay calm. Leave the room, close the door and open a window on the far side if you can do so safely. Wasps drawn by light will often leave through an open window in the dark.

For a sting, wash the area, take out a visible sting and hold a cold pack against it. Phone 999 at once if there is swelling of the face, lips or throat, wheezing, breathing difficulty, dizziness or a widespread rash. People with a known allergy should speak to their GP about what to do.

Do not use sprays or traps indoors to chase wasps around the room. Closing a room and waiting is safer.

Wasps that come indoors at night tend to gather at windows and lights. A single lamp on the far side of the room, with the main light off, can draw them away from the door you want to use. Switch it off again once they have gone, and keep the room shut.

The next morning

Check your messages and keep the phone nearby. The booking staff will be in touch about a time. Evening and weekend appointments are available, and the price is the same whenever the visit is: £120 for one nest, £60 for an additional nest on the same property, with no call-out charge.

Technicians are fully insured and qualified. After the treatment, wasps may still be seen near the old entrance for a while. Keep clear and ask the technician whether the empty nest can be taken down.

For Grays you can also ring 01622 410 019 in the morning if you would like to speak to someone directly.

A cup of tea, a quick look at the messages and a calm check of the windows is a good start to the day.

Keeping the family calm overnight

A wasp nest found at night can unsettle a household. Explain plainly to the family that a booking has been made, that the house is closed up and that nobody needs to go near the nest. A reassuring routine, such as a hot drink in a room at the back of the house, helps younger ones settle.

If someone needs to sleep in a room facing the nest, move them for the night. Check that the windows are shut and that there is no gap under the door. In the morning, before anyone goes out, look from a closed window to see how busy the wasps are. If they are numerous, use another door and keep the children inside until the technician arrives.

Remember to update the form or call if the situation changes overnight, for example if wasps start coming indoors or someone is stung.
